Ms. Jamie McCann helps her second grade class sparkle by providing learning opportunities and space for students to grow. From a lesson on fact versus opinion, her "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" costume on Book Character Day, to her brain breaks and interactive toys for "Fun Fridays", and other fun learning activities, Ms. McCann works hard and keeps her students engaged in school! #WCSTeacherFeature #wcsflight

Wheatland will be honoring Red Ribbon & Say No to Bullying Week from October 24th-26th. Monday we'll be kind to ourselves, kicking off the week by dressing up like our favorite book characters. On Tuesday, we'll celebrate being a great friend and teammate by wearing our favorite sports jerseys or school spirit wear. On Wednesday, we'll wear red to show that we love ourselves and take a school-wide photo! #wcsflight

Mrs. Fuoss always has a smile, and is helpful and approachable in her welcoming kindergarten classroom full of energetic five-year-olds! Through literacy activities, math lessons, computer skills, and recess, her students learn and follow SOAR expectations every day. A peek into Wheatland's Library Media Center finds Sue Laskowski organizing author visits and Battle of the Books (BOB), where she has a virtual bookshelf with all of the resources that students need to succeed when they participate in this program! Fourth graders were so excited to check out their BOB books this year! Not only does Ms. Laskowski keep our LMC running and stocked with great books, she also teaches Sixth Grade Explorations and an Eighth Grade Media Lab class! Mrs. Horton found her setting up the teleprompter and recording equipment in the green screen room for a student project this week. During another visit, Ms. Laskowski sang the cutest calming and expectations song with students as they prepared to listen to a book! She also supervises student aides who helped design and gather supplies to decorate bookcases in the media center. Ms. Laskowski helps foster a love of reading at Wheatland Center School! She always brings smiles and laughter to class and to her interactions with colleagues each day! #WCSTeacherFeature #wcsflight

Brantina daSilva teaches Math, ELA, Medical Detectives, and Speakers Forum to 6th, 7th, & 8th grade students. She may be new to Wheatland this year, but she is a familiar face! “Wheatland has been a part of my teaching journey since 2016 when I was first placed with Mrs. Zirbel as a student teacher,” Mrs. daSilva says. “I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be a part of this community again when [it] presented itself.” As part of this week's #WCSTeacherFeature, Mrs. Horton visited Mrs. daSilva's classroom, a calm and inviting space, during a small seventh grade ELA group, where students were engaged and working hard as they analyzed a reading passage to increase comprehension and vocabulary. During 8th grade math, Mrs. daSilva worked with students as they reflected on artifacts that they added to their Wheatland READY Profiles. Later, her sixth grade ELA students made predictions before a read-aloud, learning to take notes about characters and events. In Speakers Forum today, students presented Invention Commercials, including a hilarious promotion for "Bean Crocs"! Mrs. daSilva really connects with students and responds to their needs each day with care!

Our boys and girls softball and cross country teams had excellent growth and great experiences during the fall sports season! Way to go, Warhawks! On any given day, you can find Mr. Ryan Dahl helping and working with almost every student at Wheatland! During this week's #WCSTeacherFeature, Mrs. Horton found him in the hallway on his way to adaptive P.E., and later, in both the gym and outdoors, hyping students up for soccer. During kindergarten P.E. class, where students learned hand-eye coordination skills, a student proclaimed that the best thing about Mr. Dahl is that "he makes us run!" Mr. Dahl also finds creative ways to integrate phonics and literacy into his classes at all grade levels. He always has a smile and a positive attitude with both students and teachers. "He really likes to be funny and make us laugh!" says a student. #wcsflight #Flight2Excellence
