Parent Guide to MAP Testing
Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) is an assessment taken by 4 Year Old Kindergarten through 8thgrade in Wheatland Center School. Students currently take assessments in Reading, Math and Language Arts (grades 2-8 only). Assessments are given to all students in the fall, winter, and spring. When taking a MAP test, the difficulty of each question is based on how well a student answers all the previous questions. As the student answers correctly, questions become more difficult. If the student answer incorrectly, the questions become easier. In an optimal test, a student answers approximately half the items correctly and half incorrectly. The final score is an indication of the student’s instructional level.
Students receive an individual score, called a RIT score. Individual growth goals are developed for each student based on his/her achievement. This model of assessment is based on individual growth, rather reaching the same benchmark for each student. By individualizing for each student, teachers are able to optimize learning and ensure every student is making progress.Instructional Activities Aligned with MAP Scores:
How to help enhance your child's skills based upon their RIT score
The following tables provide links to activities that your child may complete to improve their skills in specific areas of math and reading.
As an example, from your child's student progress report, find which areas are listed as "low" or "low avg" in each subject area. Look to see what their bold RIT score was for that subject in the "student score range" column and click on the link below that corresponds to the appropriate range. Please remember that your child's Compass Odyssey learning pathway is also aligned with their MAP scores. Please be sure to visit that section for more information.
