Wheatland Students Shine in Academic Competitions


Wheatland students participated in several academic competitions over the past several weeks. The students did an outstanding job representing Wheatland in all of the competitions.


Math 24

In early February, students in grades 4th through 7th competed in the local Math 24 competition.  Students that participated were (4th grade) Vanessa Phillips, Jessica Roynon, and Nolin Janke; (5th grade) Amanda Rainey, Andrew Samborski, and Jack Brenton; (6th grade) Gwen Hammond, Keghan Pye and Paige Gaynor;  (7th Grade) Ole Hanson, Rebecca Rainey, and Jessica Dorobek.  


Several Wheatland students placed in the top six at their grade level and received a trophy.  Amanda Rainey (6th place), Andrew Samborski (5th place), Paige Gaynor (4th place), Keghan Pye (3rd place), Gwen Hammond (1st place) and Jessica Dorobek (1st place).

Academic Bowl

Wheatland students also competed in their first Regional Academic Bowl this year.  Teams were made up of experts in science, social studies, math, and language arts.  Each student took a test in their area of expertise and then competed as a team on a current events test.  Alex Bush placed 1st in the 6th grade Math competition; Katey Seidl placed 3rd in 6th grade Language Arts; Jessica Dorobek placed 2nd in 7th Grade Math; and Jack Vozel placed 3rd in 8th grade Social Studies.  Congratulations to all the Academic Bowl team members.

Regional Math Meet--Both Wheatland Teams Qualify for State Math Competion


Wheatland also competed in the Regional Math Meet.  The 5th and 6th  grade team finished first among eight area schools and will be competing in Madison at the State Math Meet on Thursday, May 18th.  Members of the first place team are:  (5th grade) Ian Kerkman, Jack Brenton, Max Lang-Lutz, Jaini Beck; (6th grade) Alex Bush, Kianna Weis, Gwen Hammond, and Keghan Pye.  Ian Kerkman finished in 1st and Jack Brenton finished in 2nd to earn individual trophies.  



The 7th and 8th grade team finished in second place and also qualified to compete at the State Math Meet on Tuesday, March 23rd.  Members of the state-bound team include:  (7th grade) Jessica Dorobek, Carly Lois, Ole Hanson, Rebecca Rainey; (8th grade) Anna Carroll, Sean Noonan, Abby Horton, and Jadyn Pye.  Jessica Dorobek finished in 2nd place in the individual portion of the test.
